Arteritis, Temporal

Description

A systemic, granulomatous, predominantly large-vessel arteritis, most commonly affecting the branches of the cranial arteries (but may involve other aortic branches), seen primarily in the elderly. Frequently associated with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR):

  • System(s) affected: Cardiovascular; Hemic/Lymphatic/Immunologic; Musculoskeletal; Nervous
  • Synonym(s): Temporal arteritis; Horton headache
